Care & Support Services
As well as offering medical and practical support, our staff can also offer emotional support, companionship and motivation. We fully understand the importance of the daily routine of medication and household tasks, however, we also appreciate that there are times when a simple chat can be just as beneficial. We pair clients with support assistants who have a complementary personality, as well as possessing the relevant skill set, taking into account similar hobbies and interests. Our support staff have interests in health and fitness, yoga, swimming, boxing, art, languages, music, dance, drama, cooking, personal development, resilience and well-being, plus many other activities that can support clients when matching characteristics and personalities.
We work closely with local community services that can widen your social circle and develop your skills and knowledge, building confidence, experiences and abilities.
We also have in house training sessions that include, developing ICT, Health & Well Being, Healthy Eating Programme, Relaxation sessions, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, befriending scheme, free meeting room space.
FY Care & Housing
At FY Care we recognise the importance how quality of housing and the living environment can have a profound effect on people's mental health. Indivuduals with poor housing and other related housing problems are at greater risk of mental health problems. Good-quality, affordable and safe housing are all vital components in good mental health, as well as supporting those with existing mental health conditions. Research suggests that those who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness, are much more likely to experience mental distress and a significant number do not access the support they need.
What kind of housing support is available?
We are aware, the experience of mental ill health is different for each individual, and mental health problems can occur at any point in our lives. In response to this FY Care can provide a diverse range of housing solutions for people with mental health illnesses. This requires taking info account all of the different types of support that people need, and how this can change over time.
The Mental Health Foundation has published a report Mental Health and Housing which identifies five successful approaches to supported accommodation:
Having a mental health illness can contribute to circumstances which cause a person to become homeless in the first place, but it’s also true that poor housing or homelessness can increase the chances of developing a mental health problem or exacerbate an existing condition. Homelessness and poor housing can be an obstacle to recovery, making it difficult to develop good mental health, to secure stable housing, to find and maintain a job, to stay physically healthy and to maintain healthy relationships.
